The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates deaths from criminal violence or other suspicious causes within New York City. learn more: nyc.gov/OCME Projects Launching a State-of-the-Art DNA Lab The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has long been a national leader in innovative forensic science and recently opened a remarkable, state-of-the-art DNA Building, housing more than 340,000 square feet of laboratories, evidence facilities, and even a garage to examine vehicles for forensic information. Bennett Midland was engaged to coordinate the construction and outfitting of the facility at a critical stage—after the building frame was up and when the work of specialized vendors, agency partners, and developers of information systems needed to be coordinated to commence lab operations on time and on budget. Bennett Midland led city and state agencies, vendors, and the construction team through a structured project management process. We mapped out the transition to permanent staff, confirmed timetables and deliverables for dozens of vendors, identified potential roadblocks, and collaborated on plans to resolve these risks. At the end of five months, Bennett Midland transitioned out, leaving the department with a qualified team and clear processes in place. The facility opened on time and within budget, and is now the largest government DNA lab in the United States. learn more: Operations |
